Mahatma Gandhi University to start International Programme in Nursing

Mahatma Gandhi University has initiated talks with Bangor University in North Wales, UK for starting the first international academic programme in Dementia (Nursing) in the country. An academic team from Bangor University will visit Mahatma Gandhi University by the end of September to carry out a detailed discussion regarding the introduction of this programme.

Mahatma Gandhi University Vice Chancellor Babu Sebastian said they would take steps for studies and research in the area. A first round of discussion on this regard is also conducted in the university on August 21. The academic strengths and infrastructure facilities of the Mahatma Gandhi University in the Medical Education and Inter University Centre for Bio Medical Research and Schools of Behavioural Sciences would be used for this programme.

The students getting admitted in the two semester post graduate diploma programme will also get training in North Wales for which the foreign hospitality will be taken care of by the host University. The Dementia Service Development Centre, UK will support Mahatma Gandhi University to build its infrastructure facilities for lecture delivery and interaction with faculty in UK. The students will also be the recipient of dual certification, as per the announcement.

Bangor University started in 1885 is conducting specialised programmes in nursing like Mental Health Nursing Learning Disability Nursing Children's Nursing, Critical Care (High Dependency),Midwifery,Adult Nursing, Critical Care (Coronary Care), Critical Care (Renal) and Critical Care (Intensive Care). The meeting addressed by the Vice Chancellor, Director of School of Behavioural Sciences P S Sukumaran, Registrar M R Unni, Adult Psychiatry Head of the Medical College, Bangor Dr Manoj Rajagopal, and Associate Professor Rincymol Mathew.
