Universities to get wifi Coverage : HRD Minister Smriti Irani

Good news from Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani for university students regarding campus Wi-Fi coverage. Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani said "The University Grants Commission (UGC) has been sanctioned Rs 6.18 crore by the government for providing Wi-Fi coverage facility across campuses. Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha said that so far, 85,335 government colleges and government-aided secondary and higher secondary schools have been approved for Wi-Fi coverage".

This program called 'Campus Connect' through Wi-Fi coverage will make university and college students to access and download educational content available on the internet for their class room assignments and examinations, along with developing their knowledge.

"Regarding schools, there is a system under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhijan (RMSA) for granting financial assistance to the states/UTs for Wi-Fi coverage to government-aided secondary and higher secondary schools among other ICT related interventions," said Smriti Irani as quoted in PTI.

The University Grants Commission has also directed universities and colleges under its control to strictly implement guidelines to promote gender equality. In another good news, the UGC has asked the HRD ministry to provide relation to those PhD holders, who all are registered before 2009. It would be a positive move for thousands of candidates applying for teaching jobs in universities.

10 lakh teachers are under continuous threat of losing their jobs after the Supreme Court's verdict that upheld UGC's 2009 regulation on minimum educational qualifications required for teachers in colleges and universities.
