The Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) has decided to pull in the 73 students who had been sent out in June because of their poor performance. This has concluded the month-long issue regarding the students' status.
The IIT Roorkee has set up some criterias for the students to retain their admission; this includes maintaining a minimum attendance of 75 percent for each subject, and they must clear all courses of the first and second semester again and should secure a minimum CGPA of 5 on 10.
On June 15, IIT Roorkee had sent out 72 students, which included more than 62 students from different B.Tech courses, since they had not scored the minimum required marks of 5 CGPA.
In 2014, the IIT had introduced a criteria for maintaining the standard of education. It had informed the students that if they do not score a minimum of 5 point CGPA in two semesters continously, they'll be terminated and they will be sent out from the college.
The terminated IIT students filed a mercy petition with the IIT Roorkee, asking for re-admission, which was not first approved by the senate, apex body of the IIT, roorkee. Then the students had filed a petition with the Uttarakhand HC. Only 47 students had filed the petition, but the High court had issued relief to all the 72 students in its order.
