In the remembrance of India's former President and great scientist Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced that the Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) will be renamed as Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Tech University. CM Akhilesh Yadav had made this announcement on July 31 and also said that the Uttar Pradesh Technical Universities new building will have a grand memorial set up for Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.
Dr APJ Abdul Kalam passed away on July 27, at IIM, Shillong, due to a heart attack while delivering lecture to students leaving millions of people cry. He was rushed to the hospital but declared brought dead by the hospital. His last rites were took place at his home town in Rameshwaram.This action by the Uttar Pradesh Technical University was to pay a tribute to Dr APJ Abdul Kalam him for his humanity, leadership, teachings and profound contribution to Science. Dr APJ Abdul Kalam was a great inspiration to the students of India.
The vice-chancellor of Uttar Pradesh Technical University has also said that they have planned to launch a postgraduate and research institute in the University to take research work forward. The Uttar Pradesh Technical University conducts a lot of courses such as B.tech , BCA, BBA, MBA, M.tech, MCA, PGDCA,etc.,
The Uttar Pradesh Technical University was previously split into two parts namely, GBTU (Gautam Budh Technical University, Uttar Pradesh) [for Lucknow Region] & MTU (Mahamaya Technical University) (for Noida region) under Mayawati BSP Government. After Akhilesh Yadav's government assumed office, both of these were merged under one name as UPTU (GBTU plus MTU). Dr APJ Abdul Kalam had recently inaugrated a 250 KW mini solar power plant in Kannauj.
Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh has also announced that school textbooks of the state will have life history of late Dr APJ Abdul Kalam so that the younger generations will know about him.
