Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Indian Institute of Patna (IIT-Patna) , on July 25 on his day- long visit to Bihar. He also addressed a public rally in Muzaffarpur, around 70 km north of the capital city, and also launched a new rail line and laid the foundation stone for an incubation centre.
Security measures for Narendra Modi throughout the day was looked after by the Special Protection Group (SPG) - the top commando force along with Bihar Government personnel. Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Vikash Vaibhav said " PM Narendra Modi reached Patna airport by a special Indian Air Force aircraft," . He was received by Governor K N Tripathi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
The registration and induction process for the admission of the new candidates to IIT- Patna would commence on-campus from July 22 onwards and classes commences from July 26. The campus, at present, has around 80 faculty members and 970 students. Its annual admission capacity is 200 students for undergraduate (UG) Bachelor of Technology (B Tech) programmes in five disciplines.
According to the information released by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development, the IIT inauguration by PM Narendra Modi was scheduled to be conducted on June 29. The delay in IIT-Patna inauguration happened since the classrooms, mess, hostel, faculty residence constructions were not completed.
