In an effort to reduce the gender gap and the one that exists between school education and engineering entrances, the Central Board of Secondary Education CBSE has launched a special programme 'Udaan 2015' for girl students empowerment. The main aim of this programme is to reduce the low ratio of admission of girl students in top engineering institutes and also provide them with good incentives for studies.
Udaan,is an online medium will help the girl students in Class 11 and Class 12 and provide them with a vey good platform to continue higher education in engineering. The candidates selected on eligibility criteria will be receiving online preparatory course and tutorials, virtual contact classes at around 60 designated centres and a financial aid of Rs 6,000 to purchase tablets for the same. To keep the students very much motivated throughout the programme, organisational and motivational speeches amongst parents and peers will be conducted by CBSE , as well.
The girl students who are interested can apply for the programme if they achieve the eligibility criteria set by CBSE:
The student should have got a minimum marks of 70 percent in Class 10 overall, along with 80 percent marks in each Science and Mathematics. For those under the grading system, a minimum CGPA of 8 and a GPA of 9 must be scored in the two subjects.
The student must have studied in Class 11 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
The total income of the family of the student should be less than 6 lakhs per annum.
The student will be selected against the city option made by the candidate for the weekly personnel contact classes. Before involved on the programme, the selected students will have to undergo a technology orientation session at their native city centres to make them technically strong and to make them comfortable with using the tablet and the internet.
The last date for submitting the applications is August 3. This programme promises to 'give wings to girl students.'
In a meeting of the Executive Council (EC) held yesterday, the educational institute approved the changes.
