Presidency University to tie up with London University

In an attempt to take Presidency University to the next level, the state is going to sign two MoUs on July 27 with two top niversities in the UK — the School of Oriental and African Studies of University of London and University of East Anglia.

Sources says that the plan is to develop academic and educational sharing on the basis of equality and developing understanding between the London university and Presidency University. The area of cooperation between University of London and Presidency University will include exchange of academics, academic staffs and students, mutual understanding in the field of research and submission of results, exchange of study material, publications and scientific research information, collaboration and mutual sharing of resources in library and other services in both universities.

According to the MoU signed between Presidency and University of London, both universities have to agree to expect financial support from national and international organizations for the cooperative activities. The proposed MoU between Presidency and University of East Anglia, Norwich, is more exhaustive. University of East Anglia has proposed to set up a centre of excellence at Presidency, which will be named University of East Anglia India Centre for the Creative and Critical at Presidency College (UEAICCCPU). This centre will maintain an identity distinct from Presidency. "The long-term targets of UEAICCCPU will include inviting distinguished visitors to the city and to enable interesting thinkers on the 'creative and the critical' at Presidency and Kolkata to travel to the University of East Anglia," said an official.

Cambridge University is also expected to sign a MoU with Presidency following University of London. The Social sciences and South Asian Studies department will involve combinly on exchange programmes. Cambridge's interest is on developing South-Asian relationship with Kolkata.
