Admissions to IITs and NITs have finally started today. The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) website was kept open for registrations at around 3 am on Wednesday. At 7 am, almost 400 students had already registered on the site. The IIT admission and NIT admission schedule is pushed back by almost a week after three revisions in the last one week. Academic session at IITs which was scheduled to start from July 16 will now commence from July 22.
After receiving the JEE (Main) ranks from the CBSE, the National Informatics Centre merged it with the JEE (Advanced) ranks and uploaded it on the website post midnight to save time. Students can view their JEE (Main) ranks for paper-I and paper-II on official websites, said a release issued by CBSE on Tuesday night. Around 13 lakh students will be part of the joint seat allocation process to 34,000 seats in 85 central institutes, including IITs and NITs. Online registration and choice filling for IIT admissions and NIT admissions for centrally funded technical institutes started at 3am on Wednesday.
The online process was delayed due to late announcement of results by certain state boards. In total 26,456 eligible candidates cleared the JEE (Advanced) this year. The students have five days to lock in their preferences following which the seat allotment process will begin on July 6. IIT faculty members said thousands of students had already started filling in their choices for IIT admissions and NIT admissions.
