The elementary level of education in the country seems to be best in Daman and Diu, where students top 34 states/UTs in language and mathematics. The other top states/ UTs are Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Mizoram, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu, where the students from government and government-aided schools scored significantly high in language and mathematics exams.
This was declared by the National Performance Survey conducted by National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) for elementary level across 34 states and union territories. In last five years 146.68 lakh students have enrolled in elementary schools in the country of which 55% are OBC and 22% SC.
The top three positions for performance in language are shared by Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Mizoram, Puducherry, Tripura, Goa, Sikkim and Tamil Nadu, while the top three slots for best performance in mathematics are Daman and Diu, Puducherry, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Tamil Nadu. The worst performers in both the cases are Chhattisgarh and Bihar.
