The Bombay high court’s verdict has come as the aid for four of the 15 engineering colleges in Maharashtra which had been placed in the "no admission" category by AICTE for the academic year 2015-2016. A division bench headed by Justice Anoop Mohta and Justice K R Shriram in an interim order allowed the four colleges — Pillai engineering college, MGM College and two institutions of Saraswati Engineering College— to participate in the Common Admission Process.
Advocate C K Thomas, counsel for Pillai College claimed that the institute did not have any deficiency. Advocate Thomas said "The alleged deficiency about land requirement with regard to a playground was settled in the college's favour last year in an HC order. Despite this the AICTE used the same reason to place the college in the no admission category”.
The other colleges claimed that the deficiency in their cases was minor. The HC is scheduled to hear the cases of the remaining colleges who have been barred by the AICTE from admitting students for the 2015-2016 academic years due to deficiencies on Thursday.
