IGNOU Launches New Courses

The Application process in Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou) has started for the January 2015 session, with four new programmes. SK Sharma, registrar, student registration division, Ignou said "This year, we have launched an MA in translation studies, a certificate in French language, a postgraduate diploma in applied statistics and a certificate for professional development of primary teachers. A new student support centre has been set up at the headquarters from where students can obtain the prospectus and other information,"

The programmes offered by IGNOU include MA philosophy; MA Gandhi and peace studies; MA extension and development studies; MA education; MA anthropology; MA gender and development studies; Master of social work; Master of social work (counselling); MA (distance education); MA economics; MA English; MA Hindi; MA history; MA political science; MA psychology; MA public administration; MA rural development; MA sociology; MA tourism management; MA adult education; MA women's and gender studies; MCom; Master of computer applications; Master of library and information science (MLIS); MSc dietetics and food services management and MSc counselling and family therapy.

Applications are invited for Bachelor's degrees as well -BSc major in physics, chemistry, maths, botany or zoology; BA major in Hindi, English, Urdu, economics, history, maths, philosophy, psychology, public administration, political science or sociology; BA in tourism studies; BCom; Bachelor of computer applications (BCA); Bachelor of library and information science (BLIS); Bachelor of social work; BBA in retailing as well as a Bachelor preparatory programme, which is meant to prepare students for selected programmes.

The enrolment process for a PG diploma, diploma, advanced certificate, postgraduate certificate and certificate and a postdoctoral certificate in dialysis medicine are also going on. The student handbook and prospectus is available at all regional study centres.
