Australian University offers Sport Management Programme

Deakin University, Australia, offers Master of Business (sport management) studies for graduates in any discipline. Mike Ewing, pro-vice-chancellor, faculty of business and law, Deakin University “The two-year program is for those who are open to a cross-cultural experience, are enthusiastic and passionate individuals committed to positively impacting the sport industry through their leadership, and are willing to commit to a course that will test, challenge and hone their existing understanding of how the sport industry is now and what it will become,".

The faculty includes full-time academics as well as industry professionals. Ewing said "Students will be indulged to practice what they have learnt in the classroom". Participants will have work experience placements in various organisations, such as the Australian Weightlifting Federation, Surf Life Saving Australia and the Victorian Institute of Sport and Bicycle Victoria. On completion of the course, candidates can look for work in schools, state and local government, sporting goods companies, research institutes and allied health practices. These experiences provide inroads into the industry, he concludes. The syllabus covers areas such as design technology (sports technology), exercise and sport science, sport development, sport management and health sciences.

Applications are accepted throughout the year. Applicants should have completed a tertiary program equivalent to not less than three years of fulltime study at a university or an approved education institution. There is no limit but from India, generally around 25 students are on the program. Sport management courses are offered in February and July intakes every year.
