In the online seat allocation process, IIT and NIT’s will have a common seat allocation, this year and the ranks in both JEE (main) and JEE (Advance) will be taken into account. A notification regarding this subject is expected to be released on March 31st.
Once the process is completed, students will have to fill a common form to refer their choices of the Institution.
For example, a student’s first and second choice can be computer science at IIT-Bombay, and IIT-Delhi and third choice can be the same computer science course in one of the NIT’s, say NIT-Surathkal.
The organizing Institute this year will be Bombay-IIT. Devang Khakhar, the Director of the, Institute confirmed that the seat allocation will be common for both IIT and NIT. The process will be carried out by the National Information centre.
It is understood, around `13 lacs, students will participate in this common allocation method.
