National crime records, Bureau statistics (NCRB) declares 43506 Juveniles were caught in India for different crimes in India. Out of this, only 1867 juveniles, which are about 4 ½ % were girls.
The report says, in this period, 1230 juveniles were arrested for murder and 1017 for attempting to murder. In this only 63 and 21 were girls respectively.
Mr. A.Narayanan says that it is essential that we should find our whether the murder was really committed by the accused or they were used as a weapon by some adults. Now he says, no system is available to educators to through a positive alternate education to juveniles.
It is must that they must be rehabitated, but instead they are further humiliated and this act force them to continue the crimes and they became hard core criminals.
The statistics given by NCRB states that about 20% of 8392 juveniles of 43506 arrested were illiterate, while 21860 hailed from families of income less than Rs.25,000/-
In this 4145 juveniles repeatedly commits offence and 39361 are freshers.
The act for punishing these young criminals is has been framed as Juveniles Justice Act. It is noted by experts this act has certain lapses and the number of counselors in the Juvenile Justice Board is also limited.
