Now union public service commission is in a state of controversy because of a controversial question in its question paper in the main examination for the lowers subordinate posts in the General knowledge paper.
The controversial question.
“For which of the following was Mahatma Gandhi best known”.
The four possibilities listed as the answers for this question are,
1. For playing an inactive/ passage opposition in the freedom movement.
2. To establish an Islamic state
3. For opposing a political office for hundred
4. For encouraging violence to end the British Rule
A candidate Uttam Raj said that the four options were mis leading even though the corrected answer was closed to the first option.
He further added that Gandhi never supported a passive or inactive rule in the freedom movement. He called for non-violence and his satyagraha was an active campaign.
Dr. Ramesl Dixit, former head of the political science department in the luck now university said that the options given to the questions on Gandhi are actually an extension of the fundamentalist approach to the Gandhian philosophy. He also said that all the options given are designed to belittle the status of Gandhi. He also stress that they should seek apologies.
The controller of examination responded that the question papers are prepared by experts and in case there is any objection, it will be examined. He also said that there is no intention to insult any leader.
Subsequently the in the up Higher Education service Examination for assistant professors, the commission have uploaded wrong answers to the questions on the web site.
One of the questions was,
“Venues and Adonis’ and ‘pare of Lucerne’ belong to which category?
The right answer is ‘narrative poem’.
The web site says, it belongs to “tragedy’.
In another question, it is asked who is the first recipient of the sahitya Akademi Award for English literature?
The right answer is R.K Narayan who work in 1960.
But the web site says it is Raja Rao who won in 1964.
