Circulars on Hindi withdrawn by UGC

University Grants Commission issued circular which directed Universities to teach Hindi as one of the primary languages in under graduate courses. The chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Dr. J. JayaLalitha and the other political parties strongly opposed this move of University Grants commission. Now, it is decided by UGC to with draws it’s circular. The new circular states that the earlier circular of imposition of Hindi will not bind the states and this was stated by Ved Prakash the Chairman of UGC. In fact the earlier circular insisted that Hindi should be taught along with English as a Primary language. The University has to choose the mode of Introduction. It was strongly opposed by one and all from Tamil Nadu. In a statement Dr. J. Jayalalitha told, the direction is not acceptable and illegal.

Union Home Ministry’s official language (Rajya Sabha) department issued circular to Anna University and Alagappa University, asked the Universities regarding the actions taken so for about the circular on Hindi. The circular expected the universities to teach Hindi as the main language in UG level and teach law and commerce in Hindi medium. This more was strongly opposed by the political parties, DMK, MDMK and PMK.

The ruling AIADMK was firm in opposing this issue and did it also. The CM said Tamil and other language would remain main subjects in Tamil Nadu Universities, with English and other subjects.
