A poor dalit student, T.Ramanujam from Pudukottai district was refused admission, because of age shortage of 17 days from the stipulated age limit.
Madras high court was told that many MBBS /BDS aspirants face similar age related issues, even for a single day shortage. The age limit is 17 years as on December 31 of Academic year.
Regarding 2014-2015 MBBS/BDS admission is concerned 46 similar candidates are there in the list. The counter filed by Addition Government pleader P.Sanjai Gandhi says that the applications have been rejected even for the shortages of one, two, four or six days.
The issue fo Ramanujam is, his cut off is 194-50. He was not selected for MBBS / BDS simply because of it not eligible criteria of age, his date of birth are January 27, 1998. He is 16 years and 399 days old. His application is rejected as he will not be completing of medical and dental admission functioning from kilpauk, Chennai defended its stand telling that a ruling of High court on June 17, 2013, itself dismissed a write petition from under aged candidate. The law for admitting a candidate for MBBS / BDS is completed 17 years old age as on Dec-31 of that Academic year. More over the admissions in all the Government and self financed colleges were over by July 25 itself and there are no vacancies as such.
The final hearing is on Aug 13 for this issue.
