The enrollment rate in ladies colleges, in particular in the areas of Higher Education is on the decline. For instance approximately 38000 women candidates appeared in single window system admission for Engineering Admission in Tamil Nadu. But, only very few took admissions in Tamil Nadu. But, only very few took admissions in women’s colleges. As on date, out of 18 women's engineering colleges, in 15 engineering colleges more than 100 seats are vacant. Most of the students prefer only quality in education, but do not bother whether it is women’s only college. Of course, only in rural area the parents bother whether the institution is women’s only or co-educational. The trend of admitting girls in women only institution is on the decline. Slowly women’s only colleges are converting themselves in to co-educational system. There is 25% decrease of number of women's only Engineering colleges in the last 5 years No doubt Government is showing interest very much for women’s colleges offering them may concessions. All India council of technical institutions are providing many concessions to the women’s Engineering colleges. The processing fee of a non-minority co-educational institution is Rs.5 lac, the fee for a women’s engineering colleges is only Rs. 3 lac. In fact, conversion of a women. Only technical institutions for co-educational college or closure of the college will cost another 3 lac. Bearing this coat, the managements wanted to do this, the reason being they are very much interested to fill the seats. Girls prefer co-educational system, the reason being they are interested to accommodate themselves in the working atmosphere in the future.
A report in “Times of India” starts that in 5 years, the number of women’s engineering colleges has decreased by 25% while the number of females in single window counseling has declined form 24 in 2009 to 18 now. Women's enrolled in engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu is 37874 and the number of women's Engineering colleges is 18. The number seats vacant in women’s engineering colleges are 3299. In 15 colleges more than 100 seats are vacant.
