Tamil Nadu Government is in the process of identifying place to establish AIIMS, as proposed, by Central Government. AIIMS, besides bringing a central Govt. model Institution to the state, also may bring the other possible developments. Most of the places identified belonged to medical colleges according to the letter written by the chief minister of Tamil Nadu to the Prime minister, 5 sites are located for this purpose it is also referred, that the union Government can choose a suitable location to form AIIMS in its first phase of the project under, the “Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraskstra Yojana”. We can say the state may become “Medical Hub”. To attract patients from North and from various parts of the globe. Of course, the technology used or the medical or surgical skills, may be the same, because they are already available in the state. But, by introduction of AIIMS, with 1000 bedded new centre, we may expect good management technology and treatment model. Because of this the standard, methodology and other areas in the other medical Institutions may also develop. The seat may get an addition 200 MBBS seats, Research in Medical field may improve in the state. Around 200 acres were identified in each of the 5 locations. The site located at Kancheepuram, the land belongs to, Government. In Perundurai the land belongs to. Perundurai Medical College. The land in Pudukottai District belongs to Animal Husbandry Department. Land at Madurai belongs to Thirupur Medical College. The road, rail and air connectivity is also identified. The chief Minister also mentioned about good water and electricity facilities in these sites also. At this juncture, The Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry requested the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to give preference to Thoppur in Madurai District.
