P.Palaniappan, the state Minister for Higher Education on Thursday informed in assembly, that Tamil Nadu has in the forefront in the growth of higher Education when compared to other states in India. He said that central Government had allocated 1% of its Gross Domestic product (GDP) for Higher Education, Tamil Nadu Government has allocate allocated 1½ % of its GDP for higher Education. The minister claims that it is the higher percentage among states in India. The minister said that UP has allotted only 0.18% of its GDP. The minister said that the policy of state Govt has taken Education to the door steps of villagers. 52 colleges were started in the last 3 years. Human development Index of Tamil Nadu stands at 0.736 while the National Average stands 0.619. The Gross Enrolment Ratio for higher Education in Tamil Nadu stands 38.2%. The total number universities in India itself are too, while Tamil Nadu has 56 universities for its share. Tamil Nadu 29 Government universities and 14 vocational universities and there is the highest number in India. The National ratio of university 1 lac people is to 23 colleges in India, but in Tamil Nadu. It is 1 lac is to 27 colleges. The people student ratios is 7:1 is Tamil Nadu.
