The self financed affiliated Engineering colleges filed a petition in the supreme court demanding for the extension of time for engineering admissions from July 31 to August 31. Based on this, the Supreme Court issued notice to Tamil Nadu Government, Anna University and All India Council of Technical Education, to be responded on June 23. In their petition Association of Management of Coimbatore, Anna University Affiliated colleges explained that the time limit for admissions to the affiliated colleges should be extended till August 31 and the courses could begin on September 31.
Kailash Vasudev, the senior counsel and Harish Kumar the counsel appeared in the vacation bench of Justices Vikaramjit singh and Shiva kirti singh. Mr.Vasudev explained, the AICTE expected the affiliated colleges to get approval for admitting. Students and the time for granting approval extended to June 10. But the counseling of Anna University would go on till July 28. So, it could not be possible for the Engineering Colleges to fill the seats and commerce the course from August 31, the dead line given by Anna University.
The counseling for 2 lac students to fill the government seats only in the third week of June. Since the time is too long, the management did not have enough time to fill their seats. It is serious issue and the vacant seats spoils the purpose of running colleges itself because of this issue only, in the last year more than one lac seat ware unfilled.
