Seven new Engineering Institutions in Tamil Nadu got approval and they may function from this Academic year itself. 152 engineering and architecture institutions are granted approval in the country. 3 existing college were closed. This was decided in a meeting of All India council for Technical Education (AICTE) in New Delhi on Monday. For a year these institutions were governed by University Grants Commission (UGC).
The approved Institutions are Jayaram Engineering College at Gummidipoondi, Narayana Guru Engineering college at Kanya Kumari, Venkateswara and Roak Engineering Colleges at Puduchery, Indian Institute of Crop technology at Thanjavur,
PSG Engineering College at Neelambur near Coimbatore and a Government college of Engineering at Bodinayakanur near Madurai.
