Status of Teachers Training Courses

The story back to 5 years says that the sale of application forms for the 2-year diploma course in the teacher education simply crossed 50,000. But fate in the last 2 years reveal, just 5000 applicants were sold, and the department is anxious whether atleast 2500 students join the course. Not less than 150 Private teacher training Institutions were closed in the last 5 years and as on date there are only 400 institutes. Already 2000 qualified candidates are in queue for appointment.

There is a steady fall in the last two years in admission to the 2 year diploma course of the state Government of Tamil Nadu. The eligibility for applying is a simple pass in XII standard. The lack of employment opportunities and the low salary in the private school may be the reasons for this down fall. According to state council of Educational Research and Training, since the pass percentage in XII has increased by 7, more students may apply.

According to S. Kannappan, the Director of state council of Educational Research and Training, these are blessed course to the girls who cannot travel to faraway places for college Education. The candidates can do UG course through correspondence while doing the diploma course itself. This will increase the employability of the candidates.
