It is clear from the reports of university Grants commission (UGC) that permissions will not be given for New Engineering colleges. In the same way, the number of seats will not be increased in the existing Engineering colleges.
The important reason for this is the existing vacancies for Engineering seats are warming. The Supreme Court already directed to organize the regulations of Engineering colleges by the end of April. It did not take any shape yet. Besides according to the reliable sources, there are no much enquires from the trusts or Association to begin engineering colleges also. It seems the interest to start new arts and science colleges is in the increase.
As on date there are 554 Engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu. The total number of sanctioned seats are 2,79,452.
739 seats are vacant in Government aided institutions and 1, 02,859 seats are vacant put together.
