Mysore: With the sounds of Dasara still reverberating, the city is getting ready to host a biggest youth cultural festival on November 23.
Over 2,000 students will take a break from academic routine to be part of the vibrant festival of music, dance and theatre, being organised by the Association of Indian Universities to promote Indian culture and national integration. The Silver Uni Fest-2009 will be a celebration of sorts when the students from different universities of south Indian states Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh will compete at the biggest cultural event of south Indian universities.
With this, the University of Mysore campus will come alive with colours of youth when hundreds of students take a centrestage showcasing diverse culture of south India. This is the silver jubilee edition of the event, said UoM students welfare dean D K Srinivasa.
A minimum 40 universities are expected to participate. Over 33 students from each university will take part in the fest, which includes classical music and dance, folk/tribal dance, quiz, elocution, debate, poetry recitation, one act play, skits, mimicry, on-the-spot painting, collage works, clay modeling, rangoli drawing, etc.
Of the participants, the best 40 students will be selected for the national-level festival.
Tanveer Hasan and Sushma Rani, who represented the university thrice, said the youth fest is a wonderful platform for youths to display talents and to meet students from other states. MSc student Pavan, who is hopeful of representing the varsity team again for the second time, adds such fests offer good experience to students.
