Literature and Art always goes side by side It is true in the case of J.Vansanthan, is a multi faced professor of English. He collected around 2500 art pieces. His family members and friends have started, on his memory. J.Vasanthan Art Foundation.
He was famous as a teacher, artist, cartoonist, columnist, good in theatre works, film critic, and documentary film maker besides many. He was highly dedicated his carrier for both art and literature.
He retired in 1994 from American college, Madurai.
After two months of his death, his family and friends floated the foundation. The foundation is meant to pressure the art works collected by Vasanthan and also continue to serve for. Art and literature whatever left by vasanthan. The managing Trustee of J.Vasanthan Foundation Dr. T.Chinnaraj Joseph Jaikumar the former principal of American college is the one who initiated the idea of floating a foundation in the name of J.Vasanthan. He said that the Mission of the foundation is to continue the legacy of Vasanthan and to provide a base for the upcoming artist as well as to create an awareness and appreciator of art and culture.
Under the leadership of Gunasekaran, a team of young artists are now involved in recovering, preserving and documenting about 2500 art worker of Vasanthan. Another team involved in bibliographical research to identify the written works of Vasanthan from the year 1950.
The foundation has wide and deep objectives. They are now planning to engage art critics to analyze and provide deep analysis in the work of Vasanthan.It is also planned to prepare art manuals to equip base for higher learners of art. It is also planned to conduct exhibitions in the cities Madurai, Chennai, Pondicherry and Delhi, during his first anniversary. The foundation is interested to convert the house of Vasanthan as art gallery.
