These are the days we speak about Artificial intelligence and knowledge base. How to make computer to think? Thinking and subsequent execution is the basic aspects of human knowledge. The attempt to make computer to do these how is progressing day by day. The result of this outcome is Robots. Robotics has become a separate branch of study.
To improve the awareness and scientific efforts in the minds of students, schools and colleges give projects to the students. The expectation is, the students may try and bring some new concepts out of their innovators. This effort yield lot of success also and at the same time many students, in an urge to complete their task and finish their project have a habit of purchasing the projects.Applying available theory and creating model is the object of any project. Instead, when the students are trying to buy these project, the aim of giving projects fail to do its objective.
Robotics- is the field where we need facilities.
To avoid the undesired method of purchasing the projects, Anna University asked the Engineering colleges in Chennai region, to plan to set up laboratories for Robotic through the process e-yantra. These laboratories may provide opportunities to the students to do their projects themselves by which they gain prestige and progress in the projects.
The efforts were taken to begin with by ministry of Human resource development in Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. Two professors from this institution a planned and designed a Robot using a micro controller which can sense environment and act. The professors are from the department of embedded systems.
Comparably the cost of the project is less, that is, the range of cost of these Robots are not in lacs, but form Rs.5000 to Rs.25000/-. According to the professor, that the students can write the programs for these Robots and make them to work.
The aim of this approach and effort is to introduce these Robots as a part of quality improvement cell in affiliated Engineering colleges. These projects are expected to improve the efficiency and the thinking quality of the students.
Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay will help to organize Robot laboratories in colleges. It is planned to conduct workshops also in the colleges. Training and support to do these can also be growing by IIT Bombay.
The cost of Robotics lab may cost around Rs. 5 Lacs and could be inaugurated within 6 months .
