What is GATE? TANCET?

GATE is the gate for the courses ME, M.Tech, M.Arch and M.Plan in the Institutes IIT, IISC, ITM and many National Higher Education Institutes. GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude test in Engineering.

TANCET stands for Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test for entry into Anna University, its member colleges, Regional colleges, Govt and self financed Arts and science colleges, in the courses ME, MBA, and MCA.

TANCET is conducted as a single examination for ME, M.Tech, M.Arch and M.Plan for MBA, MCA another exam is conducted. To appear in TANCET students must be qualified in engineering graduates with 50% minimum. This is 45% for the students eligible for reservation of seats. The qualified students in M.Sc (Computer Science) and MCA graduates can also apply for this. To write the MBA entrance Exam the students must be a graduate in any one of the disciplines with same eligibility of marks.

Anna University issued advertisement the admission for the year 2014-2015.

The date of exam for MBA and MCA will be on 22^nd March, for ME, M.Tech, M.Arch, M.Plan will be as March 23.

The students who are yet to appear in the forthcoming March can also apply for this exam. The students can apply through on line www.annauniv.edu /tancet2014

For general candidates the exam fee is Rs.500 and of SC/STs it is Rs.250.

The fee must be paid vide DD favoring “The Secretary, TANCET, Anna University, Chennai. The last date for applying in Feb 20^th and the hall tickets will be sent by post.

Besides on line, the students can also apply in offline at the co-ordinating centres at Chennai, Madurai, Kovai, Trichy, Salem, Vellore, Erode, Tirunelveli, and Nagercoil. The last date at Chennai is Feb 20 and for the other places it is Feb 18.
