Comparatively only few students are joining in the Muslim religious educational institutions in Chennai according to the press reports.
There are 3 big institutions in Tamil Nadu, namely Madrassa Al-Ba qiyat As Salihat in Vellore, Madrasa e-mabavul Anwar in Lalpettai, Cuddalore District, and Madrassa-Misbahul Huda in Needur. Nagapattinam district. Years back around 150 to 250 students used to join in every Academic year and now this number simply vary 30 to 75.
The analysed reasons are small salaries for Imams who are the religious teachers, and the preference of modern education by the parents. According to the principal Moulana Noorul Amin, the parents used to send their wards to Madrassa only when they failed in class VI or VII. Now there is no failure in these classes.
