Tamil experts for Tholkappiar Award
Tholkappiar Award is instituted by the Central Institute of classical Tamil meant for individuals for significant contribution to classical Tamil.
The famous epigraphist Iravadham Mahadevan and, the noted Tamil scholar Prof. Tamizhannal alias Periyakaruppan Rama were chose for this award for 2009 -10 and 2010-11.
Mahadevan is a recipient of Padma Shri Award has specialized in the Idus script and early Tamil epigraphy. He identified the earliest Tamil Brahmi inscriptions and suggested a deviation of Brahmi from Indus script and has published few book on this.
Tamilzhannal specialized in Tamil grammar and literature and wrote 33 books, and 17 of them about Sangam literature and Tholkappium.
The awards called Kural Peedam meant for foreign national were given to Dr.Jaroslav Vacek of Czech Republic and Dr. John ralgton Masir of UK.
