Bhasha Research and publication Centre based on Vadodara inform analysed that India has lost around 220 languages. This accounts 20% of languages had gone away from its uses. India had 1100 languages in 1961, the report says nearly 220 languages have disappeared.
Peoples Linguistic Survey of India was carried over two years from 2011 and it stated that they found. 780 languages and lost 100 languages. This meant we would have had 880 languages in total. Most of these language belonged to nomadic communities.
