Amritsar: Guru Nanak Dev University and Punjab Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a heritage Village at Guru Nanak Dev University Campus here.
Prof AS Brar, Vice-Chancellor inked the MoU on behalf of Guru Nanak Dev University, while Principal Secretary, Tourism Department, Punjab Geetika Kalha, signed the memorandum on behalf of state government at Chandigarh.
Prof Raghbir Singh, Registrar of the University today said that as per this agreement, the University shall make available 11 acres of land for the project in the campus.
He said, on the other hand, all the expenditure on the developmental works pertaining to the project would be met by the Punjab Government, which would also include the search and collection of cultural materials and artifacts to be displayed at the heritage village.
Registrar informed that the village would be opened to the general public and tourists for educational and re-creational purposes except for the research centre.
Prof Raghbir Singh said that a Coordination Committee would also be constituted with the Vice-Chancellor as Chairman to run the day to day affairs of the heritage village.
