BSP submitted a memorandum to the local Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) demanding immediate repairing of a dilapidated building of the local Government Senior Secondary Girls' School for the safety of students.
We have addressed our memorandum to the Chief Minister and will launch an agitation if our demand is not paid any heed, said Punjab BSP general secretary Jarnail Nangal and the newly elected Phagwara Panchayat Samiti chairperson Krishna Kainth.
"The condition of rooms in the school along the are so ramshackle, that they pose a serious threat to the safety of students and a disaster is just waiting to happen," they said.
"Out of 25 class rooms, 18 have been declared unsafe by the Building Safety department and notices have been served, leaving only seven class rooms for 993 students," they added.
Meanwhile, the school's acting principal Nirmal Singh said he had written to higher authorities for urgent repair of the classrooms.
