Tiruvannamalai: In establishing knowledge-based society, education plays an important A. Jothi Murugan, Vice- Chancellor of Tiruvalluvar University said.
Bestowing degrees to students of Kamban College of Arts and Science for Women, Tiruvannamalai, he said that in the contemporary world of knowledge explosion, disciplines of higher education got diversified significantly and interdisciplinary areas have also emerged.
'All these developments have cumulatively helped in evolving knowledge society in the world, ultimately leading to economic development,' he said.
According to the VC, the population of the nation between 14-24 age group is expected to be about 235 million, which would be 19 per cent of the total population by 2010. Hence the Vice-Chancellor predicted that there would be an attractive market for higher education sector in India.
Exploring the relationship between education and graduation, the Vice-Chancellor said, 'graduation is not the end of education, maybe it is the end of dependent education, but the beginning of an independent autonomous education.'
He urged the graduates to become job providers rather than job seekers.
