Additional seats for Meritorious in Medicine
The constitutional validity of the Tamil Nadu law of provide 69% quota in employment and educational Institutions was examined by the Supreme Court on Monday. The supreme Court now, directed the state Govt to provide additional seats in 1st year MBBS for the meritorious students who are affected by the quota procedure.
R. Harshini, who could not get seat inspite of her 91st rank in MBBS filed petition claiming her right to get her merit based seat.
Based on this, justices K.S.Radha Krishnan and A.K. Sikri gave this direction.
According to the student R. Harshini she could not get in to Medical College due to 69% quota law. The quota exceeds 50% norms of Medical commission judgment.
In this case, Senior Counsel. K.M. Vijayan argued for the students and the Senior Counsel Rathesh Diwedi represented the state govt. the court extended for the academic year 2013-14 its earlier order and directed the state govt of Tamil Nadu to create extra seats in Medicine and also other express in educational institutions to accommodate the meritorious students in “open category” who are affected by 69% reservation policy.
