Distance mode Ph.D – No College Job
Madras High Court has upheld a state Govt’s decision to disqualify candidates who had got M.Phil and Ph.D through distance Education or Open University system from applying Asst. Professor post to colleges.
TRB has already started the process to approach 1093 Asst. Professors for various state run colleges. According to the selection method, those who had M.Phil and Ph.D through correspondence or OUS would not be eligible to apply. It is objected that degree certificates and mark sheets issued by university for heir regular and distance mark is one and the same. There is no indication in the certificate and mark sheets that they are in respect of regular course of study or Distance mode.
More over the Distance Education Council has recognized all degrees awarded by state universities under their states. The recognized course of Madras university, Mother Teresa University, Annamalai University, Alagappa university etc. Prof Elangovan added that till sept 2009, M.Phil holder were exempted from National level or State level eligibility Test as the degree were on accordance with UGC norms. These notification had been issued without jurisdiction and was ultra virus of UGC.
He wanted High Court to question the notification and direct authorities to permit candidates with M.Phil, Ph.D degree obtained from correspondence & distance mode.
