Online admission process of Barkatullah University (BU) was disrupted after its official site — www.bubhopal.nic.in — was not accessible on the university premises on Monday. The website is working normally outside the campus.
Suspecting it to be the handiwork of some university personnel, authorities have sought help of National Informatics Centre (NIC) to restore it.
Students continue to apply online without any trouble, but status of their applications was not known to them.
Vice-chancellor Professor Nisha Dubey also called a high-level meeting to discuss the issue. In charge of online admission and deputy director Sanjay Gulati was also not available since Monday morning. According to sources, BU authorities sent a car to Gulati's home to pick him up, but he was not available.
When contacted, BU registrar Dr Sanjay Tiwari said, "Official portal of the university is not accessible since Monday morning. Our technicians are trying their best to restore the portal."
When asked what deputy director Gulati is doing about it, Tiwari said, "We are trying to fix the problem at the earliest. At this stage nothing could be said." University sources said about a month ago, Gulati was transferred and was asked to hand over the charge of online admissions to DrAmit Dutt, official website coordinator. However, he did not respond to the orders.
The problem began on Monday morning when officials tried to access the website of the university. After several efforts, they complained about it to higher authorities.
"There has been no problem since launch of the online admission. I have checked the system it has been tampered by someone," said sources.
Shraddha Soni, a student, said, "I have registered online. When I contacted officials have not been able to tell me status of my application."
BU has received only 600 applications for 1,600 seats available in 24 different teaching departments running several post-graduate courses.
