The Tamil Nadu Directorate of Technical Education and Anna University in Chennai are conducting residential faculty development training programmes to improve the content delivery styles of faculty members.
Teachers will be given training in communication skills, and the university has introduced several components, including how to use emoticons and initiate a talk, in the technical English course for engineering students this year.
The initiative is organized by the Government of India's Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) and conducted by Anna University's centre for faculty development. Several such training programmes have been planned for teachers till the TEQIP project's tenure ends, to ensure that students get quality education and become employable.
A release from the university said the initiative was taken up to "enhance existing capacities of the institutions to become dynamic, demand driven, quality conscious, efficient and forward looking, responsive to rapid economic and technological developments at national and international levels."
