Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will offer a distance diploma in fish products technology from the 2013 academic session, the university said in a statement.
"The diploma programme was developed with financial support from the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) and intends to inculcate vocational and entrepreneurial skills to widen employment opportunities, particularly among rural youth and disadvantaged sections of society," the statement said.
Candidates applying for the course must have passed Class 12 or should have a bachelor preparatory degree from IGNOU.
The minimum duration of the course is one year. Candidates also have the flexibility of completing the programme within four years. The medium of instruction is English and the cost of the course is Rs.9,000.
