New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India has suggested formulation of a single entrance examination for MBBS admissions as against the current system of separate exams for Centre and respective state medical colleges.
The SC has directed State Governments to offer 15% seats of the medical colleges to the Centre conduct an extended round of counselling to fill seats on merit.
The court also upheld the Medical Council of India's regulation requiring Indians who obtain an MBBS degree from institutes in Nepal to pass a screening test for grant of a Certificate of Registration to practise as doctors in India.
The screening test will also be compulsory for medicos who have a MBBS degree from a country with which India has a reciprocal agreement.
It upheld that Indians with MBBS degrees from two Nepal medical colleges have to take before they can practise in India.
