UPSC announces the interview schedule for the successful candidates of SCRA 2013 examination

For all those who had qualified in the written examination of the Special Class Railway Apprentices Examination 2013 (SCRA), the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced the interview schedule for the successful candidates.

The personality test (interview) of the short listed candidates will take place from 8 - 11 July, 2013.

The written SCRA Exam 2013 was conducted across India in 42 cities on 20 January 2013 by the UPSC. The written results were announced on 23 May, 2013.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), New Delhi conducts the Special Class Railway Apprentices’ examination (SCRA) to select candidates for the Mechanical Department of the Indian Railways. This examination proves to be the gateway to top rung cadre of the mechanical wing of the Indian Railways.

The SCRA exam has provided Indian Railways with its top-ranking officers. The Special Class Railway Apprentices' (SCRA) are the candidates that are selected by the UPSC through the SCRA exam. They get admitted to the undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (IRIMEE), Jamalpur. This programme was started in 1927 and is one of the oldest in India.

After successfully completing four years of training, the SCRAs join the Indian Railways as Indian Railway Services of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME) Officers.

According to the new rules issued by the Ministry of Railways, the exam is now conducted once in every two years.
