CBSE circular on scrapping grading system of class X exam

New Delhi: CBSE issued circular to affiliated institutions that 10th board exam will be scrapped from 2011 and grading system will be from 2010.

The CBSE directive follows a formal announcement of the examination reforms by HRD Minister Kapil Sibal earlier this month.

However, students wanting to opt for the board exams in class X can do so under the 'exam on demand'. Over eight lakh students appearing for their class X exams in March 2010 have to take Board exams whose results will be declared through grading system replacing the marks system.

From 2011, the grading system will continue but the board exams will be conducted only on demand by a student, an option which will be available to all. Along with the grading system, CBSE will also initiate a 'continuous, comprehensive evaluation' which will test the curricular and co-curricular activities of students.

Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) system will be put in place from October this year for those who are completing class-X in 2011. The CCE refers to a system of school-based evaluation of students, covering all aspects of their development.
