The Symbiosis Institute of Skill Development (SISD) has launched new courses for backhoe loader, fork lift operator and crane operator training from this year.
Swati Mujumdar, principal director of the Symbiosis Open Education Society (SOES) said at the launch ceremony, "Upcoming projects like Pune Metro, Mumbai Bangalore industrial corridor, Delhi Mumbai industrial corridor will create huge job opportunities for crane, backhoe and fork lift operators".
She said, "These training programmes can help unemployed youth and college drop outs to acquire employable skills and obtain jobs in the fast growing sectors such as construction and infrastructure development."
The skill development institute, located at Daravali near Paud, about 20 km from Pune, is a part of the SOES and offers basic and advance skill development courses in high growth sectors such as automotives, manufacturing and construction industries, among others.
"In the fast growing construction and manufacturing sector, use of modern heavy construction and material handling equipment has been on the rise. This has led to a huge demand for skilled operators," Mujumdar said.
P N Mehta, head (training), Escorts Limited, said, "Skilled operators can help reduce cost on fuel and maintenance." Godrej deputy general manager Sudhir Vaidya also commended the SISD effort towards exploring newer avenues for skill development studies.
Vivek Sinare, who heads the SISD, and project coordinator Amol Jadhav were among those present.
