HRD Minister MM Pallam Raju today appealed to a section of agitating Delhi University teachers to come forward and support the implementation of four-year undergraduate programme in the university.
"Teachers should come forward and support the four-year programme. Teachers are parents themselves," Raju said here.
Opposing the introduction of the four-year scheme, a section of teachers and students have alleged that the new programme will affect students coming from the marginalised sections of the society.
Students coming from weaker sections, especially those belonging to SC, ST and OBC, would face difficulties in pursuing the new programme as they would not be able to meet the expenditure of an additional year, they have said.
The new pattern will be a shift from the present 10+2+3 scheme and entail awarding a diploma if a student exits after two years, a bachelor's degree after three years and a bachelor's degree with honours or a B Tech degree on completion of four years.
