Chennai: 30 engineering colleges will receive show cause notices from Anna University, resulting to the complaints of lack of basic infrastructure in colleges across the state.
Prof P. Mannar Jawahar, vice-chancellor, Anna University, Chennai, said the university had taken stock of the raids conducted by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths in four colleges in the state.
'I came to know about the CBI raids from the media the next day. We (university) had been emphasising the need to have quality infrastructure in colleges as it's difficult for the colleges to survive without them.'
Now, we have decided to send show cause notices to 30 private engineering colleges which had scored between 50 and 65 marks in infrastructure in the affiliation process. We will give them a month's time to improve their bottlenecks. If they don't, then we will think of disaffiliating them,' he said.
It may be recalled that the CBI sleuths recently raided four engineering colleges in the state and a large number of incriminating documents indicating irregularities in library, laboratory facilities, violation of faculty and other norms fixed by the AICTE were seized.
