Subjects like social science and languages were easier while Mathematics turns out tough in CBSE Std X exams

Mathematics, as expected, once again emerged as the 'tough nut to crack' in the CBSE Std X exams. According to teachers and students, subjects like social science and languages were easier and many had scored good marks in them.

Amruta Deshpande from the Wardha-based Lloyd Vidyaniketan, a branch of Bhavan's group of schools, who missed scoring a perfect 100% (496/500), stated that overall the exam was good and "was neither the toughest nor the easiest". "I found mathematics a little bit difficult as compared to other subjects while science papers were easier," she said.

"But nothing is tough for those who studied regularly throughout the year," the teenager, who scored a whopping 99.2% and a 100 in four subjects, added.

Principal of GH Raisoni Vidyaniketan, Jayashree Bhake added that her students found this year's mathematics paper a bit difficult and that had dragged down the scores. "Subjects like Sanskrit and social science helped them score better," she said.

But not everyone found mathematics difficult. According to Siddhesh Rathi, from Bhavan's Vidya Mandir in Civil Lines, who scored 97.4%, mathematics was simple while science was tough. "It might be because I am fond of mathematics and practised it throughout the year," he said.

Rathi's classmate Manan Salodkar, who scored 98.6%, had a different view altogether. "The subjects like science and mathematics are considered to be tough as the former is application based and latter is lengthy. In comparison, all languages papers were easy," he said.

Delhi Public School (DPS) principal Akhilesh Chandra Chaturvedi added that it was difficult to analyse the subjects as many students had scored good marks in both maths and science. "But I think they found it difficult to score 100/100 in science. At our school, 97/100 was the highest whereas a couple of students scored a perfect 100 in mathematics. Languages and social sciences papers were easy," he says.
