Guwahati: Nitumoni Das, a first-year arts student at Guwahati’s Dimoria College, succumbed to 70% burns on Tuesday morning after his seniors allegedly set him on fire on Monday afternoon.
Nitumoni’s father Anil Das has lodged an FIR in which he has named one Prafulla Das and his friend Morom Borah as the main culprits. The two had invited Nitumoni from the college to their rented house on Monday afternoon. “All this was pre-planned. The duo set my son on fire after a fight over Nitumoni’s T-shirt,” he said.
The two accused had initially rushed Nitumoni to a hospital on Monday afternoon and called up his parents, asking them to reach the city immediately as their son had met with an accident. Prafulla and Morom have been absconding since Das reached hospital.
A witness reportedly told police that Nitumoni, Prafulla and two others had gathered in the room. An initial tiff over the T-shirt later shifted to a girl, whom both the victim and the suspect knew well, the witness claimed. Nitumoni and Prafulla hailed from the same locality in Morigaon, 40 km from the college.
