Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT), which was till this year, a constituent college of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), has now been upgraded as Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW). The campus is located at Kashmere Gate, Delhi.
Established in 1998 by the directorate of training and technical education, it became a part of GGSIPU in 2002. But, a recent legislature by the Delhi government has upgraded IGDTUW as a government university. IGDTUW is the first women's engineering university in the country.
Professor Nupur Prakash, earlier the principal of the college, has been appointed the vice-chancellor of the varsity.
Currently, the university offers a few BTech courses and an MCA programme. However, there are plans to start MTech courses from July 2013 with industry collaboration. While the present student strength is around 1,200, it is expected to double by 2018. Apart from this, there are plans to create a knowledge park, which will comprise an innovation centre and entrepreneurship development centre among other facilities.
Admission to the BTech programmes for the academic year 2013-14 will be conducted by GGSIPU. The seats to these programmes will be filled through the Common Entrance Test-2013 conducted by GGSIPU. However, the degree will be awarded by Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women. For more details, visit www.igit.ac.in
