Kerala State Biodiversity Board has announced the green awards for environmental organisations, individuals and journalists for the year 2012.
The awardees were chosen for their contributions to the conservation of environment, an official release said.
Cheruvayal Raman from Wayanad got the award in individual category for the conservation of disappearing rice varieties of the state. He conserves 47 native varieties of rice in his paddy fields.
N.A. Chandran of Thrissur won the award in dairy sector for conserving 16 types of native cows.
G. Devaki Amma from Kayamkulam, who grows over 600 medicinal plants in her premises, has also been selected for the Green award, while the honour for person conserving traditional knowledge and medicine went to Sebastian Vaidyar of Alakkode in Kannur district.
The award for the Green organisation went to Pampa Parirakshana Samiti (Pampa Protection Council). Mathrubhumi Pathanamthitta correspondent P.K. Jayachandran won the Green journalist award for print media.
