Authorities of the Allahabad University have deferred the selection committee for the department of Political Science, on Thursday. The committee commenced on Wednesday and was scheduled to end on May 10 but was postponed on Thursday morning.
The decision was taken after the university authorities found that there were discrepancies in the testimonials submitted by the candidates and the same being considered by the screening committee to call these candidates for interview after which the vice-chancellor took the decision to postpone the selection committee. The same would be called again in due course after rechecking of the records submitted by all the applicants.
As per the schedule of the university, interviews for recruiting fresh teachers at AU by the selection committees were held in the department of Psychology on May 3 and 4, for Medieval and Modern History on from May 5 to May 7 and were scheduled for Political Science department from May 8 to May 10.
For Political Science, the authorities had called in 66 candidates for interview against the eight posts of Assistant Professors and four posts of Associate Professor. The university found only three candidates fit to be called in for interview. For the one vacant post of professor in this department, AU authorities called five candidates for interview.
But the selection committee which commenced on Wednesday was deferred on Thursday. When the members of the selection committee reached the office of the V-C, they were informed about the decision. Sources inform that the AU authorities found some discrepancies in the documents submitted by the applicants called for the interview and the same was pointed out. But, since the selection committee had already begun, the authorities thought it to unwise to call it off. On Thursday, the V-C said it must be ensured that there were no lapses in the entire recruitment process and that authorities should recheck the documents of candidates called for the interview.
Sources informed that some of the candidates had raised the issue pertaining to their non-consideration for the interview for the said selection committee. There were discrepancies found in the documents submitted by the applicants after which the members of the screening committee asked to recheck the applications and documents of the candidates and ascertain whether someone was given undue advantage. It further informed that the members of the screening committee had sat at V-C's office and scrutinised the documents of the applicants.
Source also informed that it is possible that some of the candidates, who were earlier not called for the interview, could now be considered as the V-C does not want any discrepancy.
Commenting on the issue, B P Singh registrar of AU said, "There were some discrepancies in the documents submitted by the candidates and the same are being rechecked after which fresh dates would be announced for holding the selection committee."
